Espen Barth Eide was appointed Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment on 14.10.2021. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament as a representative of the Labor Party from Oslo in 2017, and re-elected for the coming period 2021-2025. In the period 2017-2021, he sat on the energy and environment committee in the Norwegian Parliament. Mr. Barth Eide was also Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 21.09.2012 to 16.10.2013 and Minister of Defense in the period 11.11.2011 – 21.09.2012. From 28.06.2010 to 11.11.2011, he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from 17.10.2005 to 28.06.2010 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense.
Mr. Espen Barth Eide has extensive experience from international cooperation. He was a member of Norwegian delegations to the EFTA Parliamentary Committees and the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee, 24.10.2017 – 30.09.2021. He was a member, the Norwegian Parliaments delegation to the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly 24.10.2017 – 30.09.2021. And he was also a delegate to the UN General Assembly 01.10.2019 – 30.09.2020.
From 2014 to 2016 Mr. Barth Eide was one of several Managing Directors of the World Economic Forum in Geneva, where he was also a member of the Management Board.
Mr. Barth Eide will give a key note speech the Official Opening Ceremony at the EVS35 on Monday June 13th.
